Greetings!
The downtown revitalization has definitely begun in earnest over the past several weeks. The area of South Sandusky Avenue, between Mary Street and Washington Square, has been closed to allow the contractor to bore underneath the railroad tracks for Storm Water Installation. This has been, and will continue to be, a major portion of the project for roughly 7-10 more days.
We are committed to doing our best throughout this project to maintain local traffic access to the downtown business. There will be times that require a shut down of specific areas, but we are working diligently to minimize any local traffic shutdown.
Thank you for your patience during this project. Our hope is that this project will lead to a more prosperous Bucyrus!
Sincerely,
Dan Ross, Mayor
Sid Seevers, Service-Safety Director

The Railroad Bore Project Task is about halfway completed, and so far running on schedule. A special thanks to Mother Nature for holding off rain! As you've noticed, this portion of the project requires a full detour, as the holes being dug are too large to safely allow local traffic access.
The Storm Water Installation began Monday, August 17th, at Perry Street. The installation will move south to Washington Square, and will continue through Washington Square, with an anticipated completion date of August 27th. You can expect to see temporary road closures in the areas where construction crews are present. We, along with the contractor, will do everything we can to maintain local traffic access to downtown businesses in these areas. Safety is of the utmost importance, and is the primary reason for any and all detours around certain sections of the downtown. When a full detour is required, we will have electronic signage at each end of the detour promoting downtown merchants open for business, and the use of alternative entrances to these businesses.
Storm Water Installation from the Sandusky River north to Bucyrus Community Hospital beginning Monday, August 24th. Two-way traffic will be permitted, but their may be short term road closures for the safety of the workers and city residents.

During the Railroad Bore and Storm Water Installation between Perry Street and Washington Square, local traffic is currently being detoured from Washington Square north to Perry Street for approximately 1 more weeks, weather permitting. The northbound detour will be east at Washington Square, left at the first traffic signal, and follow the signs back to Sandusky Avenue. The southbound detour will be east at Perry Street, right at the second traffic light, and follow the signs back to Sandusky Avenue.
Once construction moves into the block between Washington Squre and Rensselaer Street beginning Monday, August 27th (weather permitting), every effort will be made to maintain local traffic through this section of downtown. In case of a road closure, the northbound detour will be east at Rensselaer Street, left at the first traffic signal, and follow the signs back to Sandusky Avenue. The southbound detour will be east at Mansfield Street, right at the first traffic light, and follow the signs back to Sandusky Avenue

In our continued efforts to support and advertise your business during the downtown revitalization, the City of Bucyrus would like to offer your business an opportunity to do an informational video to be aired on the Bucyrus Access Channel. The video will be filmed and produced by Gary Hess at your business.
The purpose of the video will be to let your customers know that you are open for business during the downtown construction, your business hours, available off-street parking for your business, and the rear entrance for your business (when applicable).
If you are interested in utilizing this service, please call the Mayor's office (419-562-6767 ext. 221) or email the office (bucyrus@cityofbucyrusoh.us) to schedule an appointment for your business.
